Blue Ice Falk
Case Study
Sophic Design partnered with Blue Ice to develop a consistent and compelling visual brand language for their line of technical ice-climbing axes.
Technical Performance & Sleek Design
In technical mountaineering, high-alpine skiing, and ski mountaineering your ability to perform depends on the level of trust you have in the quality of your equipment. The Blue Ice family of mountaineering and ski touring ice axes is an offering of world class outdoor tools designed to be sleek, strong, and stunning.
Expanding A Visual Brand Language
Blue Ice partnered with Sophic Design to expand their ice axe offering and develop a consistent and compelling product language that celebrates the thoughtful elegance and performance their consumers have come to expect. After developing their ultralight flagship ski touring axe, The Hummingbird, Blue Ice wanted to create similar ice axe offerings at lower price bands to increase their market presence. Specifically, they needed to develop three additional offerings: the Akila, the Falk, and the Blackbird.
The design of the Hummingbird ski touring axe was inspired by the shape of ice crystals while the open architecture of the axe head helps minimize material and overall weight. This design improves rigidity and performance while providing the axe with a distinct and iconic aesthetic.
Falk Ski Touring Ice Axe
The Falk is a great entry-level ice axe for ski mountaineers or classic touring skiers. It offers a very good price / performance ratio. Its head is designed in chromoly alloy which guarantees it an effective anchoring and its aluminum handle ensures lightness and strength. It is the ideal tool for novice skiers and mountaineers looking for a technical and lightweight ice axe.
